Biography:
Born in Staffordshire, UK, Jessica Lennox grew up exploring the woodlands, developing a deep love for nature and wildlife. After earning a bachelor’s degree in art, she spent years refining her technique, eventually discovering her passion for colored pencil as her primary medium.
Her career began with pet portrait commissions, but her artistic path shifted when she started drawing wildlife. Capturing foxes, deer, and owls ignited a creative spark, leading her to focus exclusively on wildlife art. Her detailed, lifelike drawings quickly gained recognition, with collectors acquiring her work before it was even completed.
Lennox exhibited across the UK at wildlife centers, horse trials, and game fairs, gaining a loyal following. She fulfilled her dream of opening a gallery in the Peak District, where she showcased her original drawings and limited-edition prints. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Country Living Magazine, Fieldsports Journal, and Colored Pencil Magazine.
Since moving to Cochrane, Alberta, with her fiancé and two children, Lennox has been inspired by the rugged beauty of Canada’s wildlife and landscapes.
Artist Statement:
My work explores North America’s wildlife and landscapes, particularly the stunning scenery of Canada. Recently, I’ve begun incorporating Western themes, drawn to the intricate textures and patterns in clothing and equipment.
Initially, my drawings featured highly detailed animals against blank backgrounds. However, since moving to Canada, I’ve started integrating landscapes, adding depth to my compositions while maintaining my signature minimalistic style.
I aim to capture the spirit of each animal, focusing on the light in their eyes to bring them to life. My process involves layering high-quality colored pencils on archival watercolor paper, building texture and realism. Whether it’s the breath of a bison in the cold air or the glistening water droplets on a grizzly bear, I strive to create work that feels both intimate and alive.
