Agriculture has always been at the heart of the Calgary Stampede – and that includes grape growing and winemaking (viticulture). Established in 2024, the Stampede Cellar events honour the role viticulture plays in Canada’s agri-food and beverage industry and celebrate the finest in Canadian and international wine.
A year-round initiative, Stampede Cellar events offer opportunities for producers to showcase their products, and for our community and beyond to experience inspiring, world-class agri-food and beverage programming throughout the year.
Spanning across months, the Stampede Cellar events showcase the Stampede’s commitment to multiple facets of the agriculture industry, sharing the story from grape to glass and inviting guests to engage in viticulture through three events:
Stampede Cellar Showdown
An international wine competition taking place early in the year, Stampede Cellar Showdown showcases and evaluates a diverse selection of world-class wines across multiple categories. Vintners are invited to submit their finest wines to compete for a chance at being named a Stampede Cellar Champion, with all entries from the competition being available for purchase locally in Alberta. Once crowned, Stampede Cellar Champion wines will go on to be celebrated, sipped, swirled and savoured by guests from around the world during Stampede Cellar Uncorked in the spring and the Stampede Cellar Champion Wine Experience during the Calgary Stampede. This event is closed to the public.

Stampede Cellar Uncorked
Held in the spring, Stampede Cellar Uncorked engages guests in an elevated agri-food and beverage experience. Stampede Cellar Uncorked features a sampling model, with locally produced culinary offerings from the top restaurants in Alberta paired with the champion wines from Stampede Cellar Showdown. Dishes will be evaluated by a panel of qualified judges and Uncorked guests will have the chance to sample the wines and vote for their own best bites of the night. This event is ticketed and 18+.

Held during the Stampede and located in the Champions Ballroom on the third floor of the BMO Centre, the Stampede Cellar Champion Wine Experience provides an opportunity for Stampede guests to step into luxury and indulge their senses. The Stampede Cellar Champion Wine Experience welcomes guests to a sophisticated, speakeasy-style lounge designed to offer a relaxing escape to enjoy the winning wines from the Stampede Cellar Showdown International Wine Competition while taking in live music and panoramic views of Stampede Park from the mountains to the Midway. The Stampede Cellar Champion Wine Experience is included with admission to Stampede Park and is a licensed, 18+ venue.
