Biography:

Originally from Argentina, Cynthia Makara began her career as a graphic designer after earning a degree in packaging design. Her artistic journey led her to study drawing, painting, and human figure studies under Nicolás Menza.

After moving to Alberta in 2005, Makara explored various artistic mediums, ultimately discovering encaustic painting in 2009. This ancient technique, dating back to the first century, became her passion. Her work is deeply inspired by the vast western skies and natural beauty of Alberta, capturing the ever-changing light and textures of the landscape.

Makara’s paintings, characterized by their tranquility and depth, have been featured in exhibitions and private collections across North America.

Artist Statement:

As a figurative artist, I strive to evoke emotion through my work, much like music resonates with the soul. My paintings aim to offer a sense of peace and reflection, drawing inspiration from nature’s grandeur.

I work primarily in encaustic, a medium that combines beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. Its luminous finish, rich texture, and unique fragrance captivate me, making it unlike any other painting technique. Through my art, I seek to capture fleeting moments of beauty, allowing viewers to connect with nature in a deeply personal way.
