Biography

Born and raised on a Saskatchewan farm, Brenda Banda Johnson grew up surrounded by rolling hills, thick forests, and wide-open skies. A longtime nature enthusiast, she moved to Calgary to be closer to the mountains she loves.

Johnson began experimenting with acrylics in 2010, but her artistic passion ignited when she discovered palette knives, allowing her to create depth and texture. What started as a hobby quickly became a full-time career, with landscapes as her primary subject matter. She considers painting a gift—one she is deeply grateful for.

Artist Statement

Nature’s beauty and energy are my greatest inspirations. I am drawn to its complexity and simplicity, its imperfections, and its stillness amid chaos. My work often features textured tree bark, smooth driftwood, stormy skies, and mineral-stained rock formations. Using a palette knife, thick acrylics, and gel mediums, I aim to capture both the visual essence and emotional energy of the landscapes I love. My exaggerated color palette enhances the vibrancy of my subjects, creating highly textured pieces that invite the viewer into each scene.
