Experience a traditional Powwow

Visitors are invited to watch – and sometimes participate – in daily traditional Powwow. Each nation has different varieties of dancing to share with guests and many different styles of regalia are worn for each dance.

What is a Powwow?

A Powwow is a First Nations gathering that includes dancing. These events may be used to celebrate or to honour and sometimes include a competition. Those taking part in the dances wear colorful regalia to match the style of their dance. Some regalia may be handed down from generation to generation.

The Elbow River Camp hosts an annual competition Powwow that brings dancers from all over Treaty 7 Territory and North America.
