Established in 1974, the Calgary Stampede Hall of Fame program recognizes the people and animals who have helped build the legacy of the Calgary Stampede, celebrating their achievements and the lasting impact they have made on the Rodeo and Chuckwagon Racing industries.
By preserving the stories and traditions that define the arena and the track, the Hall of Fame program honours history while inspiring future generations and grounds the future of these legends in a well-preserved past.
Honourees are recognized across three categories:
Competitors
Athletes who have achieved outstanding success at the Calgary Stampede, whether in the arena or on the track. Inductees will have delivered consistent, memorable performances that elevated the prestige of the event and exemplified the values and spirit of the Calgary Stampede. Their legacy should inspire pride in both the community and the Western sports tradition.
Builders
Professionals who have contributed to the growth, safety, and excellence of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo or Rangeland Derby through their commercial, operational, or creative leadership. This includes stock contractors, sponsors, administrators, and contract personnel such as announcers, pickup men, and judges. While some may also be volunteers, this category focuses on those who have made meaningful, sustained impacts through their behind-the-scenes roles.
Animals
Exceptional animals whose performances have become legendary within the Calgary Stampede. This includes bucking horses, bulls, timed-event horses, and thoroughbreds from wagon outfits. Inducted animals will have shown consistent excellence, athleticism, and competitive spirit over multiple years, with recognition based on performance, public impact, and contributions to championship outcomes.
The Hall of Fame preserves the history of the most influential figures and animals in these sports, fostering pride, continuity, and community across generations.
Through permanent recognition, educational exhibits, and annual induction celebrations, the Pioneers of Rodeo contribute to the Calgary Stampede's commitment to showcasing western heritage and honouring those who have elevated the sport.
