A vision of the Stampede’s future was provided to Shareholders at the March 20, 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Warren Connell, Chief Executive Officer, provided insights into the Stampede’s next Strategic Plan that will see the development of the BMO Centre expansion through to completion while continuing to strive toward achieving meaningful impacts through the Stampede’s five strategic objectives: aligning with our community, connecting through our brand promise, supporting youth achievement in our community, building our vision and building our team.

The Stampede will continue its leadership role with the community, developing the expanded BMO Centre into a major catalyst for upwards of one billion dollars in private investment for the city of Calgary.

“Our people will continue to carry us forward into the future and exemplify the culture of Greatest Together,” said Connell.

The future for the Calgary Stampede is bright, we have strong volunteer leadership, the support of tremendous sponsors and donors, along with all three levels of governments.

After an extremely transformational and successful two years, the Stampede family bid farewell to Stampede President & Chairman of the Board, David Sibbald, who finished his two-year term at the completion of the 2019 AGM. “Dave challenged us to think differently, act instead of react and understand that failure is about not allowing people to feel empowered to enact change. Thank you to David Sibbald for not only his last two years as our President & Chairman of the Stampede but over a decade of service as a member of our Board and more than 29 years as a passionate volunteer.” said Connell.

Dana Peers was welcomed into his new position as President & Chairman of the Board following the AGM, Steve McDonough moved into his new role as First Vice-Chairman and Will Osler joined the Elected Officers as Second Vice-Chairman.

Dana Peers has had a 32-year career in the design, project management and land development industry, designing and completing projects throughout North America. He is currently President of Urbano Design and Development Ltd., which specializes in both residential and commercial design. Dana holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University.

Steve McDonough has spent his professional career building organizations and taking on new challenges. A lawyer by training, Steve has served as a policy advisor to the federal government in Ottawa, built and sold an advertising agency, is involved in commercial property development and has built a franchise retail business. Steve has a wide array of skills and experience.

Will Osler is a Calgarian who attended Queen’s University and the University of Calgary. He has been a lawyer since 1995, practicing corporate/commercial law, and is currently a Partner with Bennett Jones LLP. He has experience in corporate governance, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions and major infrastructure projects. He is recognized as a leading lawyer in Canada.

At the AGM our Shareholders elected two new Board members to join the Board, Cherie Copithorne-Barnes and Brock Schroeder. This will add a wealth of experience in the business and agri-food fields and we are thankful they were elected.
