After an exhilarating several weeks of speeches, traditional dancing, riding and lots of smiling, our 2018 Stampede Royalty have been crowned! The crowning ceremonies occurred on Sunday, September 24 and Monday, September 25, 2017 amidst much fanfare, camera flashes and a few heart-felt tears.

The 2018 Indian Princess competition began two weeks prior to the crowning on September 24, and included judged interviews, public speaking and performances of traditional dances. Each Indian Princess contestant was required to receive a sponsorship from a Calgary Stampede Indian Village Tipi Owner, and write an essay demonstrating her knowledge of Treaty 7 Nations and their partnership with the Calgary Stampede.

The three young women who represent the Royal Trio began their journeys on Tuesday, August 29 with 17 other contestants. The contestants participated in a speech clinic, impromptu and prepared speech competitions, several contest mixers where they were evaluated by hidden judges, and numerous interviews. But that’s not all! Since the Royal Trio are ambassadors of western hospitality and lifestyle, these young women also had their riding capabilities put to the test as they competed in three equestrian events and participated in an equine safety workshop.

And now without further ado, please meet the 2018 Stampede Royalty!
2018Calgary Stampede Indian Princess: Cieran Starlight is a 21-year old Jingle Dress dancer from Tsuut’ina First Nation. She is currently attending Alberta College of Art & Design where she is studying to obtain her bachelor of fine arts. She hopes to eventually complete her masters of fine arts.
2018 Calgary Stampede Queen: Lindsay Lockwood is currently completing her bachelor of arts with an honours specialization in psychology, with a goal to attend medical school in the future. She is interested in horsemanship, fitness, spending time with her dog Teddy and reading. Lindsay is a fifth-generation Calgarian and is excited to represent the city’s heritage and future to the world as a member of the Royal Trio.
2018 Calgary Stampede Princess: Jaden Holle is working towards a bachelor of education through the Metis Teacher Education Program delivered by the University of Saskatchewan. She grew up in High River, Alberta and has had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout her life, sharing her Alberta roots wherever she went. Jaden is excited for the opportunity to build community, share traditions, and promote and preserve western heritage as part of the Royal Trio.
2018 Calgary Stampede Princess: Jessica Wilson is pursuing a bachelor of science in biology from St. Mary’s University. She enjoys rock climbing and horseback riding. She’s had a passion for horses from a young age, and has ridden both English and Western styles. Jessica is an avid showjumper and is excited to get the chance to share her passion for horses and community involvement as a member of the Royal Trio.
Throughout their reign, the Royalty will make more than 400 appearances as ambassadors of the Calgary Stampede, promoting western heritage and values in Calgary and around the world!
