I always say, if you’re not having fun at the Calgary Stampede, you aren’t doing it right! There is something for everybody and if you know where to splurge and where to save it can truly be an incredible experience. So, the Royal Trio has decided to let you in on a few insider secrets to help you decide how to make the most of your Stampede!

Western Wear

Splurge: The two most essential pieces in our Stampede wardrobe (aside from our Montana Silversmiths Crown) are cowboy boots and a hat. While a custom cowboy hat can be quite the investment, Smithbilt offers a wide variety of hats in all price ranges. Alberta Boot Company also has a wide range of prices from beautiful custom made to off the shelf staples and more!

Save: If you’re not sure about committing to a full cowboy ensemble, all you need to do is pick up a Calgary Stampede bandana from Lammle’s. My off-duty Stampede outfit is a simple white dress with my red bandana. For guys, a clean crisp white button down with a bandana is my favourite look!

Splurge: If you haven’t heard of the Poutine King’s VIP menu, you’ve got to check it out!  The menu features  poutine’s with gourmet ingredients like beef tenderloin, Duck foie gras and lobster! They range from $16 – $18 and let  me tell you, they’re totally worth it! I’d suggest splitting a couple between a few friends so you each sample the different kinds! And if you’re watching the Stampede Rodeo, definitely treat yourself to cold Bud Light. Nothing goes together like cowboys and cold beer.

Save: Throughout the 10 days of Stampede there are a ton of free pancake breakfasts. We even have an entire committee called the Caravan committee and they are dedicated to providing a number of pancake breakfasts out in the community.

Splurge: Sitting in the Infield during the rodeo at the Calgary Stampede is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. My favourite part is being able to look down on the riders preparing in the chutes before they strap in for the eight-second ride.

Save: Rodeo tickets start at only $32.00 and include your Stampede Park admission. Also, if you book for a group of 10 or more, you’ll receive 10 per cent off!

Splurge: This year’s line up at the Saddledome includes Johnny Reid, Brooks & Dunn, Alabama, Usher & The Roots and Jeff Foxworthy with Larry the Cable Guy. During our “off duty” time in Las Vegas at the National Finals Rodeo, we went to Brooks & Dunn and had the most fantastic time. It even brought Princess Lizzie and Queen Meagan to tears! It’s definitely a concert I’m hoping we will get to attend this Stampede!

Save: The Coca-Cola Stage this year brings you free performances for all 10 days with the biggest lineup we’ve ever had! Check out some of the hottest stars like Nelly Furtado and Alessia Cara, as well as some great rising stars! All acts are free with Stampede Park admission.
