THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Stampede Park is conveniently located on the southeast end of downtown Calgary and within walking distance from a number of hotels. Stampede Park is also connected to Calgary’s C-train transit system, making it easy to access thousands of additional hotel rooms across the city.
July weather in Calgary is generally pleasant. Average daily highs hover around the 23C (76F) during the day. Weather can be quite unpredictable, however, and it’s not uncommon for afternoon storms, showers, even hail (yes hail!) to occur. We recommend you bring sunscreen, a hat and light jacket for the unexpected.
During the Stampede, Calgary gets an extreme denim makeover. Business suits take a back seat to blue jeans, belt buckles get huge, and neckties go on summer holiday. Even royalty embrace cowboy hats, boots and jeans. Casual and relaxed are the order of the day. If you wish to go full cowboy, Stampede Park has a large selection of western clothing in official Calgary Stampede Stores. Home décor items, giftware, and souvenirs are also available. See details.
Travellers' cheques and credit cards are accepted at most commercial establishments, banks and currency exchange offices. During the 10 days of Stampede, the Park will host more than a dozen automated tellar machines (ATMs), which accept one or more of the following networks: Interac, Cirrus or Plus. Banks and most retail areas also offer ATMs. US Dollars are generally accepted on Park with the approriate exchange rate applied. For foreign exchange rates please visit the BMO website.
Plan out your day with our mobile-friendly and easy to use schedule when it launches in late Spring 2020. In the meantime, explore our 2019 Schedule to get a sense of what you're in for.
Parking is limited during Stampede so we encourage you to take public transit. However, there is a limited number of reserved spaces available.
GETTING AROUND
Calgary’s buses and CTrain are quick and convenient ways to see the city. The CTrain is free in the downtown core and operates 24 hours during the 10 days of Stampede. You can get to Stampede Park from two CTrain stations - Erlton and Victoria Park Station. Calgary Transit is also offering discounted day passes during Stampede, which can be pre-purchased at participating vendors and purchased during Stampede at ticket vending machines. Plan your route, find schedules and maps, and much more here.
On a year round basis Stampede Park has several bike racks located outside of the Nutrien Western Event Centre and around the BMO Centre. During the Calgary Stampede in July, bike corrals can be found at Erlton Entry, Olympic Entry and MacDonald Avenue Entry.
