At 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, five cows and one bull from the Calgary Stampede’s special, larger-than-life herd went missing in Calgary. The Calgary Stampede sent out a media advisory, asking anyone who spotted the cows to share a photo of them and their location on social media.
First reports of cow sightings were on Macleod Trail, where they were spotted by those on their morning commutes, dancing on the sidewalk.

But it wasn’t long before the cows kicked up their hooves and high-tailed it to Studio Bell, where they were spotted by a school group and other spectators, who stopped to pose for photos with the cows.
Soon after, the cows were on the move again and it became clear that they were on a mission. Their final destination? The Core Shopping Centre, where the cows mingled with shoppers over lunch hour and lead curious spectators to the Community Stage for a special announcement.
At the stage, shoppers were treated to free cotton candy and a surprise performance by the 2019 Bell Grandstand Show’s Show Master herself, Onalea, who was accompanied by the travelling band of musical pirates, The Polyjesters, to officially reveal the theme of this year’s show—Trailblazer.

At the event, Bell Canada was welcomed as the new title sponsor of the Grandstand Show. It was also announced that Bell Canada will be providing complimentary Wi-Fi in the Grandstand during the Bell Grandstand Show, which will deliver a more interactive experience to audiences.

On hand for the announcement was Grammy and Emmy award-winning creative producer and Bell Grandstand Show creative visionary, Dave Pierce; Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Bell Canada, Loring Phinney and Calgary Stampede President & Chairman of the Board, Dana Peers.
“Partnerships like the one we have with Bell are extremely important to us. It truly is what makes us Greatest Together,” said Peers at the Bell Grandstand Show reveal. “We cannot have the type of exceptional experiences the Calgary Stampede is known for without partners such as Bell. I am very excited for what we have planned for the Bell Grandstand Show this year.”
