On Tuesday, February 12, the Calgary Stampede joined our community and people across the country in a celebration of agriculture. Activities took place throughout Canada highlighting the role the agriculture industry plays in all of our lives. Many events were aimed at helping to make urban and rural connections – much like we do with many of our events at Stampede Park!

Meet in the Middle facilitates urban & rural connections over local food offerings.

Meet in the Middle is one of the events that brings together people from urban backgrounds and connects them to those from the agriculture community. They connect over an evening of sampling Alberta grown food prepared by talented local chefs. Annually held at the Willow Lane Barn by Olds, Alberta, the Stampede was fortunate to have several volunteers from Agriculture and Western Events committees representing both our organization and the agriculture community.

A few familiar Stampede faces were front and centre at another Agriculture Day event here in Calgary. Cherie Copithorne-Barnes, Chair of the Agri-Food Committee, and Dave Lantz, Calgary Stampede Director, are both local producers well known in the agriculture community. They were invited to participate as guest judges at the Feed the Farmer Celebrity Cook-off. Much like Meet in the Middle, this event was focused on helping to make urban and rural connections in a fun yet informative event. Dishes were created and served by pairings of local celebrities and chefs.

The Calgary Stampede is proud of our roots in agriculture, and we’re committed to creating urban-rural connections year-round. One of the ways we do that is through Aggie Days. The popular springtime event has been welcoming Calgarians to Stampede Park for more than 30 years to learn where their food comes from, and we’d love to invite you to join us for Aggie Days 2019!

Aggie Days Family Days run from Saturday, April 6 – Sunday, April 7, 2019 in the Nutrien Western Event Centre, Stampede Park, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. To learn more about Aggie Days, visit ag.calgarystampede.com/events/.
