As snowflakes fell on the city of Calgary last Thursday, our community came together to warmly celebrate the Calgary Stampede Foundation’s newest addition – the BMO Amphitheatre.
Nestled in the heart of Stampede Park, the BMO Amphitheatre is an exciting outdoor performance and rehearsal space for Calgary’s youth to take their talent and passion to new heights. The space will be used by The Calgary Showband, The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts and Youth Campus partners like the Calgary Arts Academy, Calgary Fiddlers and Jazz YYC to rehearse and create.
The new stage has outdoor seating space for 800 people and will provide a unique and picturesque setting for Calgarians to enjoy music, entertainment and the arts in an inspiring space.
Elder Anthony Starlight provides a blessing to the new performance space
This one-of-a-kind venue has been years in the making, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of BMO Bank of Montreal. Who, celebrated their 200th anniversary on Friday, November 3, 2017.
“The Calgary Stampede Foundation is grateful to BMO for their commitment to the Calgary community for the past 200 years and for being an integral partner of the Stampede for more than a century,” said David Sibbald, president & chairman of the board of the Calgary Stampede.
Elder Anthony Starlight, David Sibbald, president & chairman of the board of the Calgary Stampede, Susan Brown, senior vice-president, BMO and Bob Thompson, president of the Calgary Stampede Foundation cut the ribbon!
The opening of the BMO Amphitheatre marks another important milestone for the Calgary Stampede and Calgary Stampede Foundation as they develop a world-class Youth Campus – an artistic hub that celebrates western heritage, education and the arts.
Together, with community partners – we are truly creating a gathering place for future generations and a place for the community to enjoy!
