Do you know what a Romney, Hampshire or a Dorper is?
These are just a few of the different breeds of sheep that will be shown at Aggie Days Saturday, April 8 – Sunday, April 9 in the Agrium Western Event Centre located on Stampede Park. Admission is FREE!
Live sheep, baby lambs, sheep shearing, spinners & weavers and Clock, Stock and Barrel – our exhilarating stock dog competition – will all be there!
Sheep Shearing demonstrations will be held throughout the day on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 at the Red Barn Stage in the lower concourse of the Agrium Western Event Centre. Come down and see how a professional shearer takes the wool off of ewes and feel what freshly shorn wool feels like. Can you tell the difference between real wool and acrylic? With hands on demonstrations, you’ll become a wool expert!
Spinners and Weavers will be on hand to demonstrate how raw wool becomes knitting wool and is turned into scarves, mitts and socks.
The Clock, Stock and Barrel competition will be going all day Saturday April 8. Forty stock dogs will be competing. Dogs are timed to a maximum of four minutes as they move three sheep through a course by whistles and signals from their handler. The competition goes from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a break from 11 a.m. – noon for lunch. Take the escalators in the front lobby upstairs to watch the stock dogs compete in the arena. It’s an experience not to miss out on!
There is so much to see and do! Don’t forget, admission is free so bring the whole family for a baa-some adventure.
