From magic shows and dancers, to instrumentalists and bands, the Canadian talent to hit the stage in preliminary competition at the Stampede Talent Search kept our judges entertained and excited. And presented a challenge to reduce the field down to 24 contestants.

Over five nights of preliminary competition the 24 highest scoring competitors ages 13 to 21, out of a field of 67, move on to the semi-final rounds. Judges scored on four criteria: execution, stage presence, creativity and overall impression. Judges for the preliminary competition included; Beni Johnson – musician, producer and hip-hop culture icon. Brandon Wood – Professional singer/dancer/actor, and Jake Matthews – Country music singer/songwriter.

So what happens next?

These outstanding young performers will now take the experience they’ve gained, insight from preliminary judges comments and aim for their personal best during the semi-final competition Thursday July 14, and Friday July 15. (There is no show Wednesday July 13.)

A new panel of judges will bring fresh eyes to score these performers in the next round of the competition, which includes Tanya Chumak (Dance), Lauren Ireland (Vocals) and Pat McGannon (Musician/Producer)

The top 12 will then go on to compete for the title of Stampede Talent Search Champion on Saturday, July 16 when the $10,000 cash Grand Prize will be awarded during the finals.

All shows are at 6:30 p.m. in the Boyce Theatre on Stampede Park and are included with Park admission. Come early to make sure you get a seat to see who will move on for the chance to compete and become Canada’s next rising star!
