It’s hard to believe that April is almost over and soon it will be May! The last month has been full of events and from our sneak preview of May’s schedule, we will only be getting busier from now until Stampede time! All I can say is that I’m so glad Princess Kimberly, Princess Haley and I get along so well because we sure do spend a lot of time together.
Just this past week we were interviewed by Branded Magazine, which is a local magazine geared toward the “young, bold, and thriving in YYC” (as their facebook page says). The interview was for the upcoming summer issue which will feature a few stories on the lesser known facts of the Calgary Stampede. It was a great opportunity for all three of us to sit down and share some of our experiences so far. One of the questions that came up during the interview was a common one; “how do all three of you get along?”
Well, we all looked at each other for a moment and then Princess Haley answered by saying;
“We all get along because we are just nice, easy going ladies.”
It was during this moment that I thought back to the start of the competition and to how nervous I was to meet all the other ladies who were entering as well. I had never entered a competition like this one, so I really didn’t know what to expect. I was hoping to meet some nice girls and make a few new friends, but to be completely honest, I was afraid that I was going to be thrown into the mix with a few Miss Congeniality/Rodeo Girls and really wasn’t sure how I’d cope with that. Luckily for me, all of the ladies who competed were very nice and personable. Not only did I make some new friends, I also ended up being crowned alongside two of the smartest, most dynamic young women I have ever met.
Both Princess Kimberly and Princess Haley are incredibly talented horsewomen, have (or are working towards) a university degree and are always busy outside of their Stampede roles.
Princess Haley and I sometimes refer to Princess Kimberly as our “little elf” because whenever we are at an event, all the children (and animals) just seem to gravitate towards her. She is almost always the first one to walk into a room with a big smile on her face and she will greet complete strangers with the warmth and kindness you’d expect to see between old friends. It doesn’t seem to ever matter how hungry or tired she is; Princess Kimberly is always happy and pleasant to be around.
Princess Haley is also great with kids and might just be a big one herself. When she is not making Princess Kim and I laugh with her “blue steel” look, she can probably be found dancing to whatever music is playing or chatting about the highlights from the latest hockey game. It is never a surprise that she somehow knows someone at an event we are going to, and sometimes Princess Kim and I stand back in awe just watching how easily she can go around a room, chatting with everyone. No day is mundane with Princess Haley around; she always finds a way to have fun.
I hope you have the chance to meet these two lovely ladies in person. Then you will really understand why it is so easy for all of us to work together at all the events we are invited to! I really am just lucky to have great team mates like them. I couldn’t and wouldn’t want to be in this role solo, so thankfully I don’t have to be!
So there you have it. If you were wondering how we all get along, I hope this little “insider view” into the trio helps you understand!
Have a terrific day!
