Calgary – It’s a well known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and with that in mind, the Calgary Stampede and Mackay’s Cochrane Ice Cream want you to enjoy it for dessert!
MacKay’s Ice Cream is proud to present this year’s signature Stampede flavor – Pancake Breakfast. Made with MacKay’s deliciously creamy vanilla ice cream, a ripple of real maple syrup, pieces of buttermilk pancake, and bacon – yes, bacon.
“In brainstorming for this year’s flavour, we reminisced about all things Stampede,” explains Meghan Tayfel, owner and third generation MacKay. “One of the big memories that we kept coming back to was the Stampede breakfasts. Sitting on hay bales, listening to country music, the smell of pancakes and bacon cooking – we instantly knew we had this years special flavour.”
This is the second year MacKay’s has created a feature flavour for The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. Always intriguing our taste buds, the 2010 Stampede flavour was beer.
For over 63 years the MacKay family of Cochrane has been making super premium ice cream, and has become part of a family tradition – rain or shine. MacKay’s produces more than 120,000 litres of ice cream annually. That is about 630,000 scoops and keeps 2,007 cows busy year-round.
Come try a pancake breakfast ice cream cone for yourself during the 2011 Stampede, from the MacKay’s Ice Cream location in Weadickville. The Stampede also invites guests to meet the MacKay family on Western Heritage Day, Tuesday, July 12 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Four generations of MacKays will be in attendance, including Christina MacKay, who with husband James (Jimmy), originally founded the family business in 1948.
