JOIN THE PARADE

The 2018 Stampede Parade is looking for new and creative entries!

The Calgary Stampede Parade is a community-based event to entertain Calgary families, visitors to our city and television audiences around the world. Parade entries are selected based on the value they bring to our audiences. Although commercial entries are permitted, all must carry a message of goodwill.

Parade Workshop

Please join us for the 2018 Calgary Stampede Parade Workshop. This interactive evening is going to showcase everything entries need to know about applying and being invited to be a part of the Parade. From applications, to safety, rules, to judging, and everything in between. The workshop will help prepare all parade entry applicants! Local float builders will also be on onsite for those participants interested in a float entry.

Please RSVP to cs.parade.workshop@gmail.com and indicate what sub-committee group you are with.

Judging

Each award category has a panel of judges that review each entry in the selected category. Based on a list of criteria, they award points in many different areas, including safety. The scores are tabulated, and the top three entries are identified.

The key contact for each entry must wear a ribbon provided by the Parade Committee. This is the only person who will be contacted by the judges. The key contact should discuss any pertinent information about the entry with the judges. Any discrepancies in judging will be handled by the Parade Committee. All judging, including of bands and entries, will take place on the Parade route.

To catch the judges’ eyes, here are a few helpful hints that will make your entry appealing:

  • The theme of your entry must be clear and concise - the more original, the better.

  • Costumes, sounds, special effects, etc. should add to your entry and to its theme.

  • Sound and music must be clear and easy to hear.

  • Any lighting and animation should complement the entry and be in good working order.

  • All materials should be good quality and in good working order.

  • Colours should work well together, and the entry should have good proportion, balance and depth.

  • All entries must be well-maintained and safe to travel on the parade route.

Award Announcements

Band and entry award winners will be announced by press release after the conclusion of the Parade.
