CALGARY, Alberta – Day 3 of the Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Futurity presented by Wrangler saw three divisions of competition including Round 2 in the Open Derby, Round 2 in the Open Classic / Challenge and Round 1 of the Non-Pro Classic / Challenge.

Barba Rey, shown by Russell Elrod (Terrebonne, OR) and owned by Jess & Kathy Phifer (Forest Grove, OR) scored a 219 for $1,293.06 to win Round 2 in the Open Derby. Second went to RPL Cat N Around shown by Dustin Gonnet (Cayley, AB) and owned by Ronald Patton (Nanton, AB) scoring 218.5 for $907.89. Rounding out the top three was Hala Cat shown by Brad Petersen (Lacombe, AB) owned by Doreen Ruggles (Ardmore, AB) with a score of 218 for $550.24.

Round 2 of the Open Classic / Challenge was split four ways at 219 for $669.48 each. Placing at the top were Athenas Picasso shown by Josh Sleeman (Yelm, WA) owned by Cody Erwin (Vancouver, WA); Cats Got Guns shown by Dustin Gonnet (Cayley, AB) owned by Pat Rorison (Dawson Creek, BC); Miss Playin’ RG shown by Travis Rempel (Fort Langley, BC) owned by James Mann (Abbotsford, BC) and Mr. Opus Prime shown by Russell Elrod (Terrebonne, OR) owned by Bill Grady (Kirkland, WA).

In Round 1 of the Non-Pro Classic / Challenge Hay U owned and shown by Kade Smith (Star, ID) scored 218 to earn the top spot and $1,404.97. There was a four way split of fourth for $396.08 at 217 by Admit Nothing owned and shown by Kristina Hass (Clarkston, WA); Miss Smoke Is Smooth owned and shown by Emma Reinhardt (Irricana, AB); Shesa Suzy Cat owned and shown by Larissa Price of Langley, BC and Sweet Metallic Sugar owned and shown by Danny Jones (Ponoka, AB.)

The Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Futurity presented by Wrangler continues on October 14 and 15 at the Agrium Western Event Centre at Stampede Park.

On Saturday Round 2 of the Non-Pro futurity takes place followed by Round 1 of the Non-Pro derby, Round 2 of the Non-Pro Classic/Challenge and the Open Futurity Final.

Saturday night features the Cut of the West starting at 6:30pm including the Open Derby Finals and the Open Classic/Challenge Finals.

On Sunday, 7 Up Non-Pro First Go, Non-Pro Derby Second Go, Non-Pro Classic / Challenge Finals, Non Pro Futurity Finals, 7 Up Non Pro Finals, Non Pro Derby Finals

Events run from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
